Sharing Culture with China

With Halton Hills recently joining up forces with sister city Wenjiang, China, I was thrilled to take part in a cultural exchange of ideas this past week!

Representatives from Wenjiang’s government (mayor and city delegates) and cultural representatives including the esteemed artist Lai (pictured) came to see what this Canadian tradition of “plein air” is all about (and if you don’t know, I envy you the chance to learn the Group of Seven for the first time!).

I walked Lai and the team from China through the science of underpaintings while working through my oil “Stained Glass” – a response to my view of Norval’s Presbyterian Church in this warm afternoon fall sunlight.

You can view the finished painting here, but it sold almost right off the easel!  I’m extremely thrilled over the response and history towards what was, to me, an very personal piece.
